Thriving Communities Collaborative
The Thriving Communities Collaborative is a partnership of community organizations dedicated to building strong family connections and improving children’s health across Cook Children’s primary service area—Collin, Denton, Grayson, Hood, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant and Wise counties. The team focuses on asthma, mitigating adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), promoting positive parenting through caregiver support, healthy lifestyles, mental health and resiliency. Our efforts are guided by a strategic plan based on the Cook Children’s community health needs assessment data and input from community partners. The plan provides a roadmap to guide our efforts and ensure long-term success.

Focus areas and key efforts
Asthma
- Provides home environment assessments, education and services to remove asthma triggers from the home through the Healthy Homes program
- Collaborates with Asthma 411 to support schools in responding to respiratory distress
- Hosts professional development and distributes asthma educational resources
Caregiver support action team
- Promotes positive parenting through Caregiver Alliance and Parent Cafés
- Promotes discussions and networking between school counselors to learn about child issues
- Distributes parenting educational resources
Healthy lifestyles action team
- Promotes healthy eating, physical activity and restful sleep through our 5210+ EveryDay program
- Support local gardens to give children hands-on learning opportunities to grow what they eat
- Improves nutrition security through a collaborative approach focused on both immediate and sustainable solutions
Mental health and resiliency action team
- Promotes Children’s Feelings Are a Work of Art – a program to help kids of all ages cope with their feelings
- Provides continuing education credits on current mental health topics through Wellness Workshops
- Supports caregivers through the Roadmap for Children's Mental Health videos
- Distributes educational tools and resources to build positive mental health and reduce the stigma around children’s mental health
- Supports partners to encourage the mental health of staff and students
