Child Abuse Prevention Month

During the month of April, communities are encouraged to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM). This effort serves to raise awareness of the impacts of child abuse and provide the community with education to support families. Both Hood and Wise Counties take a collaborative approach to increase awareness and provide education and support to families.

To garner attention for the month pinwheels are placed around the community. In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the pinwheel as the national symbol for child abuse prevention through Pinwheels for Prevention®. The pinwheel represents childlike whimsy and lightheartedness and reflects a broader vision for a world where all children grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed in supportive families and communities¹.

Organizations and individuals across our 8 counties work together to recognize CAPM, bringing awareness, education, and special programming specific to each county's needs.

Report suspicion of abuse or neglect

Texas law requires that any person suspecting that a child has been abused or neglected must immediately make a report.
