Asthma 411
Asthma 411 is a school-based program to improve the health of students with asthma in Tarrant County and surrounding areas. Cook Children's, along with UNT Health Fort Worth, SaferCare Texas, JPS/Acclaim Physician Group and local school districts, work together to:
- Equip school nurses with the necessary training and resources needed to quickly respond to a child in respiratory distress
- Enhance school asthma services
- Support prevention-oriented care
Through the program, a school nurse can quickly assess a student who is having difficulty breathing and administer nebulized albuterol to help the child breathe easier.
In collaboration with the school districts and schools, Asthma 411 staff members track attendance information and other data to better understand the current impact of asthma and evaluate Asthma 411's effectiveness. They provide results of these evaluations to districts and work with them to identify improvements that will reduce the impact of asthma on students and schools.
Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County

The Immunization Collaboration of Tarrant County (ICTC) is a group of over 40 agencies and organizations, public and private, committed to providing the systematic eradication of childhood, adolescent, and adult vaccine-preventable diseases in Tarrant County. Today, ICTC provides low cost vaccines to over 7,000 children, teens, and adults annually and community awareness, outreach, and education on the importance of immunizations to more than 20,000 people every year.
Cook Children’s leaders have served on the Board of Directors for ICTC for many years and proudly support the work of this collaboration.
Mental Health Connection
The Mental Health Connection (MHC) of Tarrant County is a network of dues-paying members dedicated to transforming the mental health service system through long-term systemic change while addressing the community’s evolving needs.
Cook Children’s played a pivotal role as a founding member in the planning and development of the MHC in 1999. Today, we continue to support its collaborative efforts and the current 5-year strategic plan.
